Freedom Solitude. In a deer´s eyes. Synopsis

Novel. MS, 325 pp.

In a Late-Night-Show film-maker Henry Hader gets carried away raving about Helene, his first movie´s actress, whom he hasn´t seen in years. The very next morning Helene is sending a text message telling him to pick up 5-year-old Hedda at a nearby McDonalds and take care of her. Hedda claims Henry to be her Dad.

Confronted with and overwhelmed by his new father-role he doesn´t know any better than, of all people, to call his ex-girlfriend Lou, whom he had left for Helene years ago. Lou has married his friend Richard instead. The old friendship is reanimated with a barbecue, followed by a trip to the public swimming pool, where Richard tells Henry how unbearable it is for him to see Lou still being attracted to Henry. When Lou wants to leave Richard for him, Henry takes both of them plus their son plus Hedda to his parents´ Silver Wedding Anniversary. He manages to show Richard and Lou them that both of them have decided in favor of each other. Back in Hamburg Helene shows up all oft he sudden. Helene has been in treatment because of her heavy depressions, but now she wants to take Hedda (who is NOT Henry´s daughter) back. Henry, having grown into his new father-role and having grown close to Hedda wants to take care of both of them. Helene can´t deal with this sudden closeness and leaves the apartment abruptly with Hedda. When Henry follows them and tries to stop them she´s asking him the decisive question, whether he has become a happy person.
